Private dinners and events

Private dinners and small events

Los Angeles · Le Cordon Bleu · By appointment

I've spent fifteen years cooking in private estate kitchens in Los Angeles. Alongside that work I take on one-off dinners and small events, in your home and built around your guests.

You tell me the date, the people and what you have in mind. I plan the menu with you, shop for it and cook it in your kitchen.

Private dinners

A dinner party where you actually get to sit down

Birthdays, anniversaries, a table of friends you've been meaning to have over, or a tasting menu for an evening that deserves one. The menu is written for your guests, not picked off a set list.

Allergies, dietary needs and the guest who doesn't eat anything green all get planned for up front, so nobody gets the sad plate.

Small events

Celebrations, gatherings and grazing tables

For a party where people stand, mingle and graze, I build the food around how the evening actually runs: what can sit out, what goes around hot, and what people will still be picking at an hour in.

Grazing tables and boards are a big part of this. They look generous, they hold up and they let you be a guest at your own party.

How it works

Three steps

  • Email me with the date, roughly how many people, where you are, and anything I should know about what people eat.
  • I come back with menu ideas and a price. Every event is different, so I quote each one rather than work off a rate card.
  • I cook. You get on with hosting.

Who's cooking

Classically trained, fifteen years of experience, and the knowledge to back it up

I trained at Le Cordon Bleu and have spent fifteen years as a private chef in Los Angeles estate kitchens, cooking for celebrities, executives and families who expect it done right. On top of that I bring thirty years of strength training, extensive study in nutrition and three published books on food, training and supplements. So you get a menu with real knowledge behind it, not just good taste. If you or your guests are training for something, I'll build around that and it will still taste like a dinner party.

I wrote The EASY Way to Organic Cooking, 240 recipes. Organic where it matters, and where it doesn't, I'll tell you. More about me on the about page.

Common questions

The things people usually ask

Where do you work?Across the Los Angeles area, including the Westside, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Malibu. If you're farther out, ask.
What does it cost?It depends on the menu, the number of guests and what the evening needs. I quote every event individually after we talk.
Can you work around allergies and diets?Yes. Tell me up front and the menu is built around it, not adjusted at the last minute.
Do you teach cooking classes?Yes, on request. One-on-one or a small group in your own kitchen. Email me with what you want to learn.
How far ahead should I book?As early as you can. Email me the date first so I can check it.
Are you a dietitian? Not by degree. I've taken extensive coursework in nutrition and have spent thirty years applying it, in the kitchen and in training. That's what my three books are built on. If you're managing a medical condition, I'm glad to work alongside your doctor or dietitian.

The newsletter

What I cooked this week

That is ten of them, with the research behind each. Every fortnight I send one meal from a working private kitchen — what I cooked, why, and what it was for. And when new evidence moves a grade in the guide, subscribers hear it first.
